SD Cards

SD cards are based on the older MultiMedia memory card although SD cards have a number of differences. Most SD cards are physically thicker than MMC cards. SD cards generally measure 32 mm × 24 mm × 2.1 mm, but SD cards can be as thin as 1.4 mm, just like a MMC card. Devices with SD card slots can use the thinner MMC cards, but the standard SD cards will not fit into the thinner MMC slots. More about sd cards

M2 - Memory Stick Micro Memory Cards

In a joint venture with SanDisk , Sony released a new Memory Stick Micro M2 memory card on 6 February 2006. The Memory Stick Micro ( M2 ) memory card measures 15 × 12.5 × 1.2 m, roughly one quarter the size of the Duo card, around the size of a fingernail, with 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB, and 2 GB capacities. The Memory Stick Micro M2 memory card comes with an adapter, much like the Duo Sticks, to ensure compatibility with current PRO devices

CF Cards

At 43mm (1.7") x 36mm (1.4") x 3.3mm (0.13"), CF cards are among the oldest and most successful formats. CF Cards have held on to a niche in the professional camera market especially well with the Sandisk Extreme 3 (III) and Extreme 4 (IV). CF Cards have benefited from having both a good cost to memory size ratio relative to other formats for much of its life. More about cf cards

USB Thumb / Pen Drives

aka USB Flash Dive, USB Pen Drive, Thumb Drive and USB Stick

USB flash drives offer potential advantages over other portable storage devices, particularly the floppy disk . USB Sticks are more compact, generally faster, hold more data, and are more reliable than floppy disks. USB flash drives use the USB mass storage standard, supported natively by modern operating systems such as Linux , Mac OS X , Unix , and Windows.

MMCMobile Memory Card

The version 4.x of the MMC memory card standard, introduced in 2005 , brought in two very significant changes forming the MMC Mobile cards to compete against SD cards. These were support for running at higher speeds than the original MMC memory cards or SD cards and 4 or 8 bit wide data buses.

RS-MMC Memory Cards

aka Reduced Size Multi Media Card (RSMMC)

RSMMC memory cards are a smaller form factor of the MMC Cards, of about half the size: 24 mm × 18 mm × 1.5 mm. This alternate form factor is known as Reduced-Size MultiMedia Card , or RSMMC , and was introduced in 2004 . RSMMC memory cards are simply smaller MMC cards; by using a simple mechanical adapter to elongate the card, an RS-MMC card can be used in any MMC (or SD card) slot.
